My favorite holiday, or anyday, cookie

I have a confession to make. I am a serious cookie-holic.  Don't feel bad though, I am kind of proud of it ;)

Because of my addiction, I consider myself to be a cookie connoisseur of sorts. If you want to know about good cookies, I am the lady to ask.

Last year I came upon a recipe for Holiday Snowballs and I became infatuated. I made them a few times last Christmas, and at least 10 times this season so I think I have finally made the last adjustment to perfection.

Aren't they beautiful!!??!! I actually took all of these beauties to our master seamstress Jessi's holiday party and I didn't even cry when I had to share them. I am proud of that too ;) 

The recipe said to dust them in powdered sugar (so they look like snowballs) but this year I found that rolling them in sparkly sugar makes them look like jewels, which seems ever better.

So  here it is, my all time favorite cookie recipe:

Snowballs (aka super yummy shortbread cookies)

1 1/2 c. (3 sticks butter) softened

3/4 c. powdered sugar

1 Tbsp. vanilla extract

1 tsp. salt

3 cups all purpose flour

1 bag Nestle white morsels

1/2 c. chopped nuts (I like them with pecans)

Preheat oven to 375.

Beat together the butter, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Slowly add the flour. Stir in morsels and nuts.

Then roll balls the size of your palm (roll in colored sugar if making them look like jewels is your bag) and put on cookie sheet and bake for exactly 12 minutes or until the tops are light brown.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar (if you didn't roll them in sugar) and wait patiently for them to cool. They taste way better cool.

Tadda! Meet the best cookie you will ever eat. 

Noah made them with milk chocolate chips and they rocked. They were super rich, but if you make them small they are great with a cup of coffee.

I woke up in the middle of the night thinking of other things I could put in these babies, that's when I finally had to talk to a professional about my obsession. lol.  I think that they would be amazing with walnuts and semi-sweet chips or even with no chips at all.

If you try this, let me know! I'd love to hear if anyone else thinks they are as good as I do. I like them so much I'd marry them, but don't tell Dan!

I've never seen Mimi Green look so good! I wish I could sit Erin down and pick her brain for a few days ;)

Seven Crazy Dogs

  

I'm not going to show you all of them now, but here is a sneak peek at the shoot Kim did yesterday for me. She shot 7 dogs at once and made it look so effortless! I've said it once and I will say it again, she is the most amazing woman!   

Dolce the French Bulldog on Parade

Dan and I had such a fun Sunday today. We met some really cool people, Tania and Chad, who own  Bath, Brush and Beyond Pet Spa here in Albuquerque. They are the proud owners of Dolce, the cutest French Bulldog puppy ever:

We are in the midst of shooting new photos for our band new website and Dolce was the first to model our line. I placed an ad on Craigslist which kept getting flagged (which removes it from their site) by some jerk person, but I did get plenty of responses before that happened. I have a super soft spot for Frencies, so Dolce's was the first shoot we booked.

Her momma Tania is the nicest lady and had really great ideas for Mimi Green. Her shop might be carrying our line in the future which makes us very excited.

Kim wasn't available today so Dan shot all the photos. He did an awesome job-- turns out that photographing puppies is much different than making art photography! And Dolce had a TON of energy. I didn't think little legs like that could run so fast;)

And she was super playful. She looked absolutely fab in this Mimi Green collar!

Next I think we are doing Kim's dog Jackson and Etta and Cessie. I can't wait to see what she comes up with, she is the best in the world.

Cessie had a bit of a photo shoot today, and she shook her little toosh on the, ummmm, dog walk. You can't even tell anymore that 2 months ago she was homeless and she had major surgery on her arm. She has totally fattened up and her fur is growing back over her huge scar. Pug -tastic I say ;)

Auggie on the other hand, he didn't think that this was any fun.
I was so excited when I found  this jogging stroller at a garage sale when I was pregnant. Unfortunately, today was probably the 4th time Aug has ridden in it. But considering that I still have 30lbs of prego weight to loose, I think he will be ridding in it more and more now that it is nice outside.

Tomorrow Noah has a concert at the university-- he is playing a guitar solo which I am so excited to see. And tonight, mommy and daddy have a date to go see  Wilco in concert.  I am assuming that Jeff Tweedy will be playing a guitar solo also, but it probably won't be as good as Noah's. ;)

New Baby; Same Bag

She arrived from Amazon last week. Canon SD1000 Elph.  I thought I'd never waste money on a point and shoot, but lately, with a 7 year old, a baby and a very large diaper bag in tow, I have found that I no longer have the capacity to carry around my bulky Canon SLR.  Turns out that heading to the dark side wasn't such a bad idea.

She shoots video that actually is watchable upon my television set.

She has manual settings that make me feel like I am the one responsible for the shot.

She is shoots more mega pixels as my last Nikon D100--  7.1 to be exact.

And thanks to her friend, the SanDisk Ultra II 2 gig card, she is fast as lightning.

But her biggest asset in my book is that she fits perfectly in the pocket of my purse / yoga bag / diaper tote  and my husband's big hands. Yes, my husband the photography teacher has been shooting with it too.   I wasn't sure that he would come anywhere near it since it doesn't shoot out 4x5 negatives, but he likes her tiny, powerful body . That's men for you.

Oh I forgot to say that if you have all sorts of time before you need to take your photo, you can designate a color in your frame that this very smart camera will select while rendering the rest of the image in black and white. Auggie thinks this feature is pretty cool, but I don't think I will ever remember to use it again. 

The lens quality on the SD1000 seems to be pretty good, what else would you expect from a Canon though.  (Full review here on DPhoto Journal )
